Growth You Can Trust

Account-Based RevOps sounds ambitious, and it is. But you do not stand it up all at once. This guide lays out a practical sequence for setting up ABR, from the first account list to a fully automated motion across acquire, expand, and retain. For the concept behind it, start with our guide to Account-Based RevOps.
Three things make ABR possible: an executive sponsor who can align marketing, sales, and customer success, a shared system of record such as HubSpot, and a willingness to agree on definitions across teams. If those are in place, you are ready.
Start with a clear ideal customer profile based on the accounts you actually win and keep, not the ones you wish you had. Turn that ICP into a named target account list, tiered by fit and potential. This list is the backbone of everything that follows, so get marketing, sales, and success to agree on it together.
Most misalignment is really a vocabulary problem. Agree on what a qualified account looks like, what each stage means, when an account moves from marketing to sales to success, and what each team owns at each stage. Write it down. This is the least glamorous step and the one that decides whether ABR works.
ABR runs on shared data. Consolidate to one source of truth, deduplicate and enrich account records, and build the routing and SLAs that move accounts between teams without dropping context. If your data is messy, fix it here before you layer plays on top.
You cannot run an account-based motion on lead-based reporting. Build account-level reporting that shows engagement, pipeline, and revenue by account across the full lifecycle. This is what lets leadership finally answer the question of what is driving revenue. See the metrics that matter in ABR for what to track.
Now run coordinated demand against your target accounts: paid, search, content, and outreach tuned to the buying committee. Because sales and success are already aligned on the same list, the handoff carries context instead of a cold form fill.
This is where ABR pulls ahead of ABM. Build cross-sell and upsell plays triggered by usage and account signals, and customer success plays that catch risk early. Expansion and retention are where mid-market B2B revenue compounds, so do not treat them as an afterthought.
Running coordinated plays across many accounts is a lot of repetitive work. Agentic AI can handle research, enrichment, routing, follow-up, and reporting so your team focuses on judgment. This is the role of RevvedAgents, the agentic layer we run inside HubSpot. Learn how it fits in running ABR in HubSpot.
The teams that succeed with ABR do not boil the ocean. They align on a list, fix attribution, prove one or two plays, then expand. Want a mapped plan for your team? Book an ABR strategy call.
